"Everyone should know how to swim."

You've heard this said many times, and you agree.
Yet still, you, or someone you know cannot swim.
Why?
Some people never had the opportunity to learn.
Many tried and gave up, because the class didn't alleviate fear.

Some are so scared, they won't consider taking a single lesson.

SwimReady: a program to help people overcome fear of water

SwimReady is a health and wellness aquatic program designed specifically for non-swimmers and fearful swimmers.  The program’s goals are to eliminate fear, build comfort, and teach basic water safety skills.  You'll start learning on dry land, and your confidence is built step by step both in and out of the water.  You'll learn to identify, understand, and manage fear in a safe, supportive environment.  The proven, three-dimensional teaching approach combines cognitive awareness and emotional support with a unique curriculum of progressive water skill-building.  Once you’re in control, and understand that you can keep yourself safe, preoccupation with survival and drowning will be reduced or gone.  The mind and body will be free to enjoy the water and relax, and if desired, to learn additional water skills such as swimming strokes.  Even so, there are plenty of aquatic activities you can enjoy, even if you don’t learn strokes. Floating for relaxation, water fitness classes or boating can now be part of your lifestyle once you're confident in foundational safety skills.
Your aquatic journey is unique to you, and always determined by the goals you set for yourself.

Build Awareness

Start learning on dry land. Understand the facts, causes and symptoms of aquaphobia. Learn how water buoyancy works. Tour a pool deck, and learn the protocols that keep you safe in an aquatic environment.  Before getting in water, view the skills you'll learn. Start replacing negative, irrational thoughts about water with positive, rational thoughts.

Get Positive Support

Gain an ally in your journey towards learning to swim.  Get guidance, motivation and an empathetic listener to help guide you.  Reflect on your feelings and progress.  Deal with your fear directly and boldly by being honest. In group classes, talk to peers with similar issues.  Learn in-water and out-of-water coping strategies to help manage and dissipate fear or anxiety. Set goals, and discuss strategies together.

Progressive Skill Building

The unique, progressive program takes a gentle approach to water acclimation. Skill building starts with techniques for blowing bubbles, the foundation for safe swimming.  We introduce basic water competency skills such as floating, treading and safe water entry and exit.  Students move towards independence, always with proper support and guidance as they learn to be safe in and around water.

Our Commitment

We're committed to helping people overcome any degree of anxiety about swimming -- no matter what age, experience, skill level or body type.  Fear of water is common.  Almost half of Americans fear entering water.  This fear can be accompanied by  feelings of shame, anger and even hope.  Many live day by day with these feelings, and may even hide them from family and friends.  Then again, others choose empowerment, and embark on an emotional and physical  journey that positively affects their entire life.   No matter how the fear developed, we guide people towards a healthy relationship with water.   Imagine life opening up to recreational aquatic activities you can enjoy throughout a lifetime -- water aerobics, fitness swimming, boating, or simply relaxing in a pool with family and friends.   Give yourself -- your family and your community -- the joyful and life-saving gift of learning basic water competency.  Put your fear behind you.
